Prologue

May

The steel gray bars separated into two as Carmen stepped one foot out of the cell. She had told herself that when this day came that she wasn’t going to look back. She was going to put one foot in front of the other and continue walking, leaving behind the stale smell of the quarters, the loud yelling of the inmates around her and the memory of being locked up. She did exactly that. She put one foot in front of the other as the guards led her out of the cell and into a small room. They closed the door behind her allowing her to change out of the orange jumpsuit that she had been wearing for nearly six months.

Carmen stared at the window knowing that the guards were watching her change. Through the last six months, she had grown accustomed to the lack of privacy. Carmen stared at the plastic bag that lay on the table. In the bag were the clothes she was wearing when she was arrested. Carmen slid the jumpsuit off, anxious to get back inside of real clothes. The jumpsuit fell at her ankles and she grabbed the dress, pulling it over her head. It stopped just about two inches above her knees. She grabbed the flip-flops, putting her feet inside of them. She felt for the holes in her ears, hoping that the holes hadn’t closed up and slid the earrings inside. Carmen waited, knowing that they were watching her. It was only a matter of seconds before they were going to open the door.

Carmen waited until she heard the sound of the door opening before she moved. She grabbed the plastic bag and followed the guard out of the room and down towards the releasing department to collect the money that had been left in her account.

“Going home,” one of the other inmates asked as she walked by.

“Yes ma’am,” Carmen answered. She kept walking, knowing that the inmate had to be new to the facility because she had never seen her before. Carmen stood in line, seeing another woman being released until it was her turn. She filled out the card with her information and handed it to the clerk.

“Are you having a girl or boy?” the guard asked, peering down at her belly.

“A boy,” Carmen replied, starting to drum her fingers on the counter as she waited for the clerk to hand her the leftover money. Carmen touched her head, feeling the tight cornrows that she had gotten the night before. Due to the vitamins and pills she had to take for the baby; her hair had grown almost down her back. Carmen knew that she wouldn’t be able to take care of her hair because she was in prison so she quickly made friends with an inmate who could braid. Carmen got her hair braided regularly, trading braids for food and postage stamps.

“Here you are,” the clerk said, handing Carmen an envelope. Carmen took it from her hands and slid it into the plastic bag.

            “Ready?” the guard asked.

“I’ve been ready for six months,” Carmen told the guard. Carmen followed the guard down the long hallway. She could feel tears starting to wail up in her eyes as it hit her. It was over. Her prison days were over.

Absence of Posts

Just wanted to drop a quick note on the reason why I have been absent from the blog. I might have done this already, but can’t remember. For about three weeks, I was working two full-time jobs to try and help support my book as well as me. It didn’t leave much time for blogging or better yet, sleep, but I’m back! Blogging and writing are my first loves so I feel good now that I have the time to do both! *Razzle~Dazzle*

Book Review: Memoirs of a Creole Crime Cartel by Redsnapper

facebook.com

If you have never heard of author Redsnapper, I highly suggest that you get acquainted with his work today.

Redsnapper is the author of the Urban Erotica Bliss trilogy series: Scandalous Motives, which includes the titles, Scandalous Motives, Scandalous Motives: Relentless Ambitions, and Scandalous Motives: Heartless Reactions.

Memoirs of a Creole Crime Cartel (MCCC) is the prequel to these novels, set in Kansas City, Missouri and follows the lives of Andrew Laurie, the ruthless Don of the infamous Creole Cartel, his daughter, the beautiful yet manipulative, Tangie Laurie, and her conniving grandmother, Suzette, affectionately referred to as Big Momma.

Not having read any of his previous novels, reading MCCC, set the tone for any other work that I may read by him. At first read, MCCC caught my attention. To be honest, as a lover of gangsters and stories of drug cartels, I was willing to buy and read the novel just based off the title and cover design. The novel did not disappoint at all, but there was more sex than I had imagined!

At one point while reading the book and I will be totally honest, I had to sit the book down on my bedside dresser and repent to the Lord. I’m serious and am not telling a lie just to be humorous. I have read erotic fiction books before (Zane, Omegia Keeys), but nothing like this! Redsnapper was so descriptive in his scenes that I almost became embarrassed to be reading it. Thankfully, the cover didn’t shout “erotic fiction,” so I wasn’t scared to read the book in public.

Although this book has a storyline, sometimes you tend to forget that there is one because of the explicitness of the sex scenes. The scenes are not spaced far apart so after reading one, you are almost forced into another one. If you are a dynamite fan of erotic fiction then you will love this! If you are a beginner and read this book, it will set the bar very high for any other erotic fiction book that you may read. Do not get disappointed if other erotic fiction books are not as descriptive or pleasurable (smile) as this one!

If you buy this book, which I hope you will, remember, I have warned you! It’s juicy! (Literally :-0)

Rating: ***** (LITERARY CLASSIC)

Olivia gives good advice on GlobalGrind

myyearbook.com

This isn’t the whole article, but it captured enough to post…this is straight from globalgrind.com:

I dont care who you are or what you are doing. One isn’t going to be successful at anything until they start believing in themselves. If you don’t believe in yourself and your own abilities, you are immediately stunting your growth. This is all easy to say, but having the hardcore belief that not only you can, but you WILL accomplish your goals isn’t an easy task. Everything in the world is weighted against you. The media has put bad news in front of the good. But it is left up to you to use your own vices to develop the self awareness that will bring you to new levels of success. No one is going to step up and hand you success. It has to come from within your heart and soul.

*I’m Going In…*

Okay, so I just saw one author’s FB status where she called people “haters” for saying negative things about her book. I haven’t read the book, but I thought writing was subjective? Not everyone is going to like your book. I even know that. Thankfully, I haven’t heard any negative comments about my book, but I know its coming. As a writer you have to grow. You can’t grow unless someone gives you tips or tell you the errors of your ways. Take it as a learning experience. Maybe, their not “haters.”  Maybe, their just being honest.

Shoot, with a ten book series, someone better be honest and tell me what they like or don’t like–I’m trying to turn these bad boys into movies!
