Book Review of Omegia Keeys’ “Can You Keep a Secret?”

First off, I don’t care if Omegia is my soror or if we’re affiliated with the same company. I’m honest in my reviews and maybe even brutal. Shoot, I have the right to be honest when I spent MY money on the book. Too bad I can’t show that brutal side of me with my first book review.

For those of you who have never heard of Omegia Keeys, here’s some background information. She’s an erotic fiction author from Indiana, who emerged on the scene in 2007 with her debut novel, Passionate Playmates. The follow-up came in 2009 with Seduction.com. Now, she is back again with her third novel, Can You Keep a Secret? (CYKAS)

Let me say this, Can You Keep a Secret? is not a secret that I want to keep. Whoa, whoa, don’t take that line the wrong way. What I’m saying is this: this book is so good; I want to tell the world. Out of all of Omegia’s books, and I have all of them, Can You Keep a Secret is the best.

The book follows the life of Monica Taylor, a successful Human Resources Manager at People’s Insurance who discovers her husband’s infidelity. Instead of waltzing around the house like a sad puppy, Monica decides to take matters into her own hands and spice up her sex life (and boy, does she!)

When I first started reading the book, my mind eventually went to the movie, Waiting to Exhale where I relived the memory of good ‘ol Bernadine. The only difference is, I’ve never read Waiting to Exhale. In CYKAS, Omegia does an EXCELLENT job of describing Monica’s thoughts and emotions, almost to the point that you think you’re walking around in the woman’s head yourself. The story is written in first person, which aids in the reading experience.

The one thing I noticed about Monica’s thoughts is that they are honest and real. Monica is an excellent representation of the working mother in America. Yeah, yeah, I’m not a mother, but with the way this book is written, I could relate!

Oh yeah, Omegia definitely didn’t hold back on the nastiness. This book definitely ain’t for the kiddies.

Yeah, she earned it, go ahead, Omegia, take the FIVE STARS!

Rating: ***** (LITERARY CLASSIC)

Drake speaks on Lil’ Kim’s shot at Nicki Minaj

Lil' Kim

Yeah, so by now, you’ve probably heard about Lil’ Kim taking a shot at Nicki Minaj. In my own personal opinion, I don’t think that neither one of them need to be taking shots at each other. There is enough room at the top for the both of them. On a side note, though, I feel as if Kim might feel threatened since she went in on Nicki. I’ve never known Nicki to say anything disrespectful about Kim at all. Maybe this is just a publicity stunt for Kim. I hope not. She’s too talented to start a rap beef with another female rapper who ACTUALLY looks up to her.

So what did Drake have to say. This is what he told MTV News (I’m quoting this from the video)….

I feel like Lil’ Kim is a G in the game, you know what I’m saying. You’re a part of an era that’s classic, that we’ll never forget, as young kids, you know, me and Nick. So its like, you don’t have to do that. You don’t have to get on stage and announce your presence or tell people to pay homage. That’s a given. I’ve watched Nicki pay homage to her time and time again. I just didn’t respect it all. Who else was on stage with her, I don’t respect it at all. You’re just wearing your heart on your sleeve.

Had to share this…

One of the fellow authors with PWP, posted this as her status on FB. I thought it was too funny:

Jonita Davis: had an interesting conversation with the publisher about my next book’s genre. LOL Tasha and Vogue, seems I’m not **hard** enough to hang with you two and not nasty enough to run with Omegia. Carrying On will be mainstream fiction. LMAO Rebecca I just had to tell it, too funny.

The Journey to Diamonds (Part V)

In 2004, after my mother passed away, I was lying in my bed in Margaret Nance (one of Winthrop’s residence halls) and I wrote these lyrics…

Life ain’t never what I thought it would be

If you had of asked me as a baby, if I wanted life

No, is what the answer would be

There’s so much pain

So many boys playing games…

Sick of these raining days

No sunlight or change

And I can’t be what I want to be

And I can’t do, what I want to do

All I have is these dreams, that don’t even come true

Back then, that is how I felt. My main support system was gone, the woman who nicknamed me, “Starchild,” at birth. To me, everything seemed unreachable.

However, I proved my own self wrong and these lyrics are nothing, but a reflection of my growth. Dreams do come true. I had the dream to be a published author and I am. Right now, I am pushing the world to follow their dreams. You can do whatever you put your mind to. Don’t let anyone stop you. Don’t even let YOU stop YOU. Life is about taking chances. Take that chance and learn from it. Taking chances is what gets you to where you want to be.

I encourage all of you reading this, to shoot for the stars! YOU CAN DO IT!
