this interview is straight from vibe.com:

VIBE: So how did you end up on a motorcyle with Rick Ross?
Stacey Dash: F. Gary Gray called me and he’s a director that I wanted to work with for a very long time. He’s like ‘Look I’m doing this music video, it’s based around Harley Davidson and it’s going to be amazing, will you do it with me?’ I said, ‘Of course! You’re F. Gary Gray! I love your vision, yes!

Nice, when did you guys film?
We shot it Sunday and Monday at Palm Desert—both 18-hour workdays.

What’s your role in the video?
I play the video vixen. I’m in a Lamborghini and he pulls up on me. I’m not having a good time with my man and he’s like ‘Come with me.’ There’s about 20 guys in Harley bikes surrounding me. I’m like ‘Heck yeah, I’m getting on the bike!’

Are you hesitant about being in rappers’ music videos?
Not at all. Work is work. And if it’s something that you like and are getting paid, I wouldn’t be hesitant to do it all. If it was something where I didn’t like the concept and it was just some Mickey Mouse director, that’s different.

How familiar were you with Ross’ work?
I wasn’t very familiar. Kinda. I heard a couple songs that I liked and then I asked around some people I know [laughs] and listened to “Super High” and liked it a lot.

What were you asking people?
I was asking people in [the] business what they thought of him. They said ‘Oh he’s a good rapper, he’s solid.’

Would you hang out with him outside of work?
Oh, absolutely. He’s so nice. I can see that. I like him. And he’s smart.

Is he a serious kind of guy?
He’s quiet and I’m quiet so it’s really good. When words are spoken, they mean something.

What about Game, how’d that video happen?
We did a movie together [a year ago]—that I’m pretty sure is not coming out—and became friends. So you know, he called me and said ‘Please’ and I said ‘Okay.’

What movie was this?
I don’t even want to talk about, if it comes out great, if it doesn’t fine. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough money to make a movie and they tried. We did finish I think. It was not a very…I don’t know if it’s coming out.

Game’s video looks a bit more typical of a hip-hop video then Ross’. What was his pitch to you?
His pitch was ‘I’m doing a video, I need you to come at 4 o’clock in the morning to be the girl that I wake up to. I’m like ‘Ugh, really? He’s like ‘Please.’ I said ‘Ugh, really.’ He says ‘Please.’ I couldn’t say no. [Laughs]

Yeah, those naked girls on the couch caught me off guard.
He knew I would have no part in that. I’m [said] ‘Once that sun rises, I’m out.’ And that was it. I got there, I shot it and I left.

Is Game smart like Ross too?
Game is highly intelligent. He’s even educated.

What are your conversations with him like?
We have all kinds, from politics, to finances, to life, to religion. He’s an intelligent man. That’s what I hope gets exposed about him. Which is why I did my part in his video. I want him to expose that side of himself.

What’s stopping him?
He says everything is about timing. He’s just such an intelligent man and no one knows. He’s articulate as well.

So you guys kind of made a deal?
Yeah, he promises that eventually it’s going to happen. I’m holding him to it. And I think he has a great voice for rap. I think his voice is amazing, so I would love to hear him rap some… stuff. [Laughs]

I was surprised to hear that your most recent husband, Emmanuel Xuereb, was physically abusive towards you. TMZ put up the legal paper, but did you ever want the public to know?

I didn’t necessarily want it to get out, but it got out. Unfortunately, it’s not the first time for me and that’s something I was going to get into [publicly.] I was in a [bad] relationship for five years when I was a young girl with my son’s father. It’s a sickness. And it’s also… it’s about being a woman and being strong enough to leave. And sometimes you’re not. It’s very sad and women need to be helped, not condemned. It’s not like you want to be there getting your ass beat.

Was it hard leaving your son’s father when you were younger?
I left finally, after my son was born. My son saved my life because had I not had him, I would probably be dead. I got the courage from my son to leave and do what I had to do.

Did you feel like you were in a life-threatening situation with Emmanuel?
No. ‘Scuse me, I’ve got two fucking kids. There’s no fucking way, man. Once he got physical, that was it. ‘Oh yeah? You’re going to put your hands on me?’ I don’t think so, you’re going to jail. You only get to do that once, that’s it.

Exactly. Did your children know what was going on?
No. My son didn’t really know and my daughter has no idea. She’s oblivious. She’s just a happy little girl that goes to school.

Is that a talk you want to save for later?
For Lola, she doesn’t need to know. It’s not her father. All she needs to know is that we’re not together anymore and we wish him well. My son, he knows what the deal was. My son knows everything. We grew up together. I’m completely honest with him. And he’s a grown man.

He’s super protective over his mother?
For sure.

Has your ex-husband tried to get in contact with you at all?
No. The restraining order worked. And that’s the other thing I want women to know: If you do the steps, they work. They try and tell you, ‘You can’t get away from me.’ But go to the law, it works.

With having experienced two abusive relationships, how do you deal with the aftermath? Are you seeing a therapist?
Yeah, I have a therapist and I pray a lot. I’m staying very close to God right now. I keep saying God is my man because I’m not used to being without [one]. It’s not easy, it’s very difficult for me. And I just… I get on my knees a lot.

Do you think there’s a pattern with the guys you choose? The bad boy?
Oh no. My daughter’s father is an upper class twit, an Englishmen. He’s a really good man, we just didn’t work out. And my first husband would never hurt me in a million years. So I don’t know what happened with this last guy.

Were your other ex-husbands like ‘Yo Stace, we will kill that man if you want us’?
Yes, of course. That was already a given. They wanted me out of the situation, so yeah.

Do you have any more court dates left?
Oh, no. That’s done. We’re done.

Divorce finalized?
Yep. Life is moving on.

This is Jay Santiago’s house! *LOL :-0)

  • Remember Natina from the trio Blaque. The group had a song called “808” and were also in the movie Bring It On! with Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union. Well, it looks like she has headed down the same road as Maia Campbell. Natina was the rapper of the group (and wrote majority of the group’s songs) and was recently arrested for prostitution, disorderly conduct, and cocaine possession. UPDATE: this is straight from bossip.com, and is being reported as having come from Natina’s management:

Her lawyer is in the process of dealing with the person that has placed this false info in the media using photos that were altered using Photoshop. We do now know whom is responsible for this and we are now pursuing legal action! This is the same person that hacked in and deleted her first twitter page @iamnatina in which she had to create her new page @therealnatina! All of this came to surface because she had exposed an artist that was claiming to have a record deal with Jive Records but in actuality did not. This person “name left out for legal reasons” used her name as leeway to get advance services using her name. Natina has currently landed a new movie role and is also working on her solo album in New York starting next Month. The photo is not a Gwinnett county jail booking photo. Nothing can be pulled up online on the Gwinnett County Courts web site of any charges at, http://www.gwinnettcourts.com nor the Gwinnett County Jail web site which is http://www.gwinnettcountysheriff.com.

Is it really THAT Serious?

So I was listening to Power 98 yesterday morning and heard No Limit Larry and the Morning Madhouse discussing the issue of Sandra Bullock’s adoption. Personally, I do not understand the hoopla surrounding the fact that she adopted a black baby. I look at it like this. I would rather see the child raised in a loving environment than to see it bounced from foster home to foster home without any stablity. What do you think?

Check out the cover of People magazine which features Sandra Bullock and her new son, Louis Bardo Bullock.

NJ Principal says NO MORE to MySpace and Facebook

Since I practically live on Facebook and conduct a presentation almost annually on the Ins and Outs of MySpace and Facebook, I had to post this…this is straight from thelifefiles.com via abcnews.com:

A New Jersey public school principal has had enough of the harm — from sexual predators or mean girls — that can come to young teens on sites like Facebook and MySpace. So Anthony Orsini, principal at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Ridgewood, N.J., wants kids blocked from the sites at school and at home.

Orsini told “Good Morning America” today that the online taunting used to be limited to students in eighth grade or higher. Now he’s seeing kids as young as fourth grade creating Facebook pages to bash a classmate.  “It’s become meaner and meaner and they don’t understand they aren’t socially and emotionally ready to understand. We see the times that things are posted on line — 2:30 in the morning, 1:30 in the morning, students are supposed to be asleep at that time.”

There are dangers to MySpace and Facebook, but there are a slew of things that people can do to protect themselves. Facebook and MySpace both give tips on how to be safe on the internet. It can be done! Want to learn how? Check out my presentation!

LeToya Luckett + Honeymag.com

concreteloop.com

this is straight from honeymag.com:

There was a time after Destiny’s Child broke up, when I was out of the spotlight. I was trying to figure out what to do. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do music again — be in a group or go solo. Actually, the thought of going solo was very scary to me. I didn’t think I could do it and would get mad when people told me I should record an album by myself.

I wasn’t upset about losing a chance to go to the Grammy’s or any celebrity perks. It was the loss of the friendship that was difficult. That was the hardest part of the separation. These girls [Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson] were my friends from elementary school. We went to church together, we hung out together.

To go from that to sitting across from each other in a courtroom and going through all that law stuff, was just crazy. You just kind of look at each other differently. That’s when I realized that the friendship had died. Figuring out how we were going to split assets and profits and all of that felt like a divorce. Right after the break up, I went to stay with my friend in Atlanta who had me in church Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I was developing my relationship with God. It helped me understand that I didn’t create my path. I wasn’t stressing, I wasn’t worrying. I was just praying and letting Him reveal what he had for me.

God is so amazing. Recently, I ran into Kelly and we got to catch up briefly. It was one of those things where you never know how the other person is going to react. But it was relaxed. I think we’ve both gotten to the age where it’s like, Girl please! She even hit me up the other day to let me know she was traveling. I would love to have a close friendship again, but that’s on God’s time.

The experience taught me about how things can be manipulated in the public. Like with the situation with Matt Kemp. I think the blogs kind of created the whole relationship. We were friends – there was nothing more to it. When we went out, a lot of times we had lots of other mutual friends there, but people would single us out. I definitely thought he was cute, but it was never anything like that. They had it on blogs that we were dating and this happened and that happened – but that’s not it.

rap-up.com

Right now, I am dating this work. It’s kind of hard to run into people you can trust. You just never know what their thing is or what they want to get out of the situation. At this point, I don’t want to get into dating. I’m focused on work and if he comes, that’s great.

I’m now based in Los Angeles. I moved here for acting. Between albums, I made the decision to come to Los Angeles and find an agent and have him direct what I do. My first audition was Preachers Kid. Thankfully, I nailed it and got cast for the role of Desiree. Four days before we went into production, I was cast for the leading role of Angie. I’d never done a film, let alone starred in one, but luckily, I had an amazing acting coach, Troy Roland, who helped me through it.

Not long after that, I got selected for The Killers, which is debuting in June with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. I’m telling you — I lost my mind. The character I play is just like Charlotte from Sex and The City. She’s Katherine’s best friend and coworker and believes in love and being in love. It was such a surreal experience. I remember sitting on set with these guys and thinking, Wow, that’s Katherine Heigl from Greys Anatomy and Ashton Kutcher. She’s such a great actor and knows exactly how to turn it on and turns it off. Mr. Kutcher is hilarious and funny and everyone was really professional. All the actors were really supportive; it didn’t feel like everyone was competing.

I still have a ways to go. There’s more I want to do, especially with the youth. I’ve made it a point, especially on the tours to speak to Boys & Girls Clubs of America and at local schools. A lot of teenagers give up easily and fall victim to low self-esteem and peer pressure. I know what that feels like. Like I said before, I was at one time just trying to figure it out and could have gone one way or another. Thank God I have family and friends who lead me in the right direction.

I definitely look at myself as a survivor. I was just telling my friend I think I’ve spent most of my life getting over stuff. But that’s okay. That’s life. If you can’t walk away with something or learn something new, then it was all in vain. Keep your chin up and stay prayed up and just know how awesome you are and know you can do anything. Follow your dreams — you shouldn’t be doing anything else!

Rocsi writes column for HoneyMag.com

honeymag.com

column for Honey Magazine. this is straight from honeymag.com:Rocsi’sCheck out 106 & Park host,

When the United Service Organization (USO) invited me to visit troops in Germany, I decided to go because I knew a lot of friends who had served in the military. They are fighting for our freedom and I wanted to give back. I stayed at the Ramstein Military Base – which is one of the most important bases in the world. That’s where a lot of soldiers go before and after tours of duty in Afghanistan or Iraq. Because of that, there’s a large mix of international soldiers, from Americans to Brits to Germans – and a lot of families and children. But it still looks and feels just like your neighborhood, with schools, rec-centers and offices.

The soldiers and families I met were so appreciative of the visit and kept saying, “Thank you for coming and thank you for showing that you care.” But I thanked them – they left a huge impression on me. I spent a lot of my time kicking it, eating and talking with wounded soldiers. I also visited students at the different schools on the base. Each one had a program called “Smart Girls Club,” and it was while sitting in on one of their discussions that the topic of body image came up.

I announced my battle with anorexia last summer on 106 & Park; so it was crazy to hear the girls talk about the same things I struggled with when I was just a little bit older than them. There are so many triggers for eating disorders. For me it started with an athletic thing, I was trying to be skinnier to be a flyer for the cheer leading squad. Mentally, I started to think I was too fat. I thought I was the definition of being overweight. For good or bad, my issue was never about men. It was never about a guy for me even to this day. I forgot who said it [but]: “you can be snaggled-toothed, cross-eyed, crazy-haired and there’s still someone out there who loves you. But you have to love yourself first.”

They opened up about their own body image struggles. What struck me about the group is, it wasn’t just Black girls, or Spanish girls or White girls – [the group] was diverse. It sounds so cliche, but I don’t think a lot of people know that everyone suffers [with] what’s looked at as a “white” disease. Women of color battle with body issues too. I deal with mine everyday.

I think its not something you can just “get over.” You have to finally feel secure with yourself. It’s about self-esteem and if you are not healthy with your self-esteem it’s something you never really get over. I don’t know if it’s our society that makes us that way. But I don’t believe only the media [should be] blamed, it starts at home when your parents say things like “Don’t eat too much!” or “You’re too fat or too skinny!”

That discussion and my time with soldiers has inspired me to go back again. I’d love to do a “Rocsi Presents” USO Tour and touch those cities that a lot of people don’t visit like Guam, Italy, or even Afghanistan and Iraq. I’m trying to get more hip-hop artists to go out there and visit. Some people may be surprised by these plans, but I’ve always been a philanthropic person. About 85% of the things I did before 106 & Park were based on giving back.

Through my Rocstar Foundation, I’ve helped rebuild communities in my native New Orleans. But that doesn’t get covered. It seems like people never want to hear about the good. That doesn’t stop me and it shouldn’t stop you. It’s easy to show love to different groups, especially our wounded soldiers. You can volunteer with your local USO chapter or any of your local veteran stations. You don’t have to go overseas. There are plenty of wounded soldiers that live right on our soil.

As told to Zandile Blay
